Hypersensitivity. Thromboembolism; cerebral vascular disease or CAD; undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding; endometrial or breast carcinoma; diabetes w/ vascular involvement. Liver dysfunction. Known or suspected pregnancy.
Not for protection against HIV infection (AIDS) & other STD. Not recommended in women w/ risk of thrombotic events eg, w/ history of thrombophlebitis, obesity, diabetes & high BP. Women who smoke & >35 yr. Wt gain in long-term use. Perform annual history & physical exam. Not to be administered earlier than 4 wk after delivery if not breastfeeding; 6 wk after delivery if breastfeeding.
